Greetings, Recollectiv!

This weekend we say farewell to November 2020 and, on Tuesday, say "hello" to December. It's an odd time with mixed emotions. Normally, we'd be gathering with our family and friends for holiday celebrations, but this year, we have to be creative and find ways to connect while maintaining the safety of ourselves and others. We will have to innovative in gift-giving as well, staying with online ordering and shipping and gift certificates (I've shared a few links below). However you shop, please try to support small local businesses and restaurants whenever possible; they need our help more than the big box stores do! If you know of any good sites or great gift ideas, please email me so I can share them in the next newsletter.

We had a really fun session last week with some great tunes, livened up even further with the celebration of Nancy's birthday. Nancy has been with Recollectiv since inception and has been invaluable as a volunteer team member, drummer, french horn player and, of course, drinking buddy! We look forward to her next birthday when we hope to be able to give her hugs and share cake!

Looking below at this Saturday's set list, you'll see we have a lot of new tunes! That's because the following week, on December 5th, we'll be hosting an online open house to introduce people to Recollectiv and as such will be doing ONLY old favourites. Please feel free to invite friends and family to join us by emailing info@recollectiv.ca to register for the link.

Here is the song list for this coming Saturday:

1. You Are My Sunshine
2. You Belong to Me (NEW)
3. Sentimental Journey (NEW)
4. For Me and My Gal (The Bells are Ringing)
5. They Can't Take that Away from Me
6. Side by Side (NEW)
7. I'm an Old Cowhand
8. Sunny (NEW)
9. Take Me Out to the Ball Game
10. Put on a Happy Face

As in previous newsletters, I've posted some links to a variety of online entertainment. You'll find them below our Zoom invitation. Additional links to online events can often be found on our Facebook page.

If you are not a Recollectiv member and are reading this newsletter, the link to our weekly Zoom meeting will be hidden from you. If you'd like to know more about Recollectiv, please visit www.recollectiv.ca and if you are interested in joining us, please email us at info@recollectiv.ca.

This week's highlights:

Please note: Occasionally, these content providers ask for your support when you can give it.  Many artists are struggling to make a living right now, so I strongly encourage you to tip or donate whenever you are able. Anything you can contribute is greatly appreciated.

- A great website for unusual and often practical gifts is Lee Valley Tools. Loads of gifts for hobbyists, but also some fun games and such. They deliver across the country. Click HERE for the website.

- Another great company for those in your life who like games of any kind (for any age) is Face To Face Games (ironically named considering the pandemic!). Visit them HERE.

- The One of a Kind Craft Show is online this year.  You can get some beautiful, hand crafted items and have them shipped to the recipient. There's something for just about everyone. Click HERE to register and begin browsing.

- At our last session, I talked about some excellent food I had delivered by a caterer who is donating meals to the Red Door Family Shelter for every meal that is ordered. What I received was a delicious, comforting meal at a really good value. If it's too much food for you, the leftovers can easily be frozen. This special menu is $49.99 (feeds 3 to 6!) and includes free delivery to anywhere in the Greater Toronto Area. To get in on the weekly special, email justin.siklis@chefscatering.ca and mention Recollectiv to get a few bonus chicken pot pies! They will then email you the menu of the week on Friday, so you can order for the following week.

- On Sunday, December 6th at 4pm the Niagara Jazz Festival is offering an online holiday singalong. It's free, but it's also a fundraiser so you can donate if you wish! Click HERE for more information.

-In the mood for a Canadian Jazz concert? The Canadian Online Jazz Festival has a whole collection of recordings of live concerts you can watch for free at your convenience. Click HERE to discover some new artists or enjoy some known favourites.

- Do you love Recollectiv? If so, you should know it wouldn't exist without the wonderful people at Smile Theatre who have provided support, guidance and most importantly a tax receipt to anyone who wishes to make a donation to our project. They do great work and as part of that, you can watch their TUNEY TUESDAYS  which happen on Tuesdays at 2pm just about every week. Zoom in by clicking HERE. You're encouraged to sing along as well!

- Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 4 pm EST, you can join Music Mends Minds for their Zoom music sessions; just click HERE on one of those days and times. Their founding band, "The Fifth Dementia", was the original inspiration for Recollectiv. There is no cost to join and their song repertoire is similar to our own.

- The National Jazz Museum in Harlem has a lot of great content to be viewed online. You can visit their website HERE or go to their YouTube channel HERE  for some of the video content they provide.

- The Jazz Performance and Education Centre (JPEC) has a number of really exceptional jazz performances on line which they list HERE. Enjoy some world class music from the comfort of your own home!

- Do you love jazz guitar? Enjoy one of Toronto's finest guitarists, Kevin Barrett, almost every Friday afternoon at 4pm by clicking HERE. You can also watch a replay any time on his YouTube channel HERE.

- Every Friday at 4pm enjoy "Free Play Duo" and their beautiful A capella looping. Every time I hear them, I marvel at their talent. Their music spans every genre!

I look forward to seeing you on our virtual conference session this Saturday!

In-person Recollectiv sessions are postponed for the foreseeable future. Updates on the situation will be in the newsletters.

Stay well, stay sane and stay home!
Sending hugs from a safe distance,

Ilana
