FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA— An 85-year-old woman was struck by a car backing out of a Ralphs parking space, police say. Orange County Deputy Coroner Kelley Keyes identified the victim as Lavonne Perez, a Fountain Valley resident.

At 4:30 p.m. Saturday Fountain Valley Police responded to the grocery store lot at 18400 block of Brookhurst. A Lexus SUV, driven by a 70-year-old Fountain Valley woman, "ran over the victim" as they backed out of a parking space.

Medics rushed Perez to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to Keyes.
