As we enter into a second lockdown and the dark nights of November draw in a good film is just what we need to lift the spirits. Sky Cinema’s adaption of the best-selling children's novel The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett couldn’t be more timely. This well-known children's tale tells the story of a British girl called Mary tragically orphaned in India following an outbreak of cholera. Mary moves to the UK, settling in Yorkshire to live with her uncle in rambling Misselthwaite Manor, only to discover a magical garden filled with wonder and intrigue.

The hotly anticipated film has a starry cast including Colin Firth as Archibald Craven (Mary’s uncle) and Dame Julie Walters as the formidable housekeeper Mrs Medloc, with rising star Dixie Egerickx playing Mary. A modern version of an old British fairytale, who better to collaborate on a whimsical jewellery collection than the renowned jewellery house Boodles.

‘It’s an ideal pairing for Boodles,’ says Director James Amos. ‘So many of our customers know and love the story, having grown up with it themselves and in many cases introduced it to their own children.’ Boodles Head Designer, Rebecca Hawkins agrees that it was a dream collection to create. ‘There are so many themes to explore: secrets, transformation, fresh beginnings. And of course nature itself. British landscape and flora are perennial favourites at Boodles,’ says Hawkins.

The 40-piece strong collection took two years to create and features diamond pieces that echo key moments in the film. A pair of twinkling diamond earrings mimic the pattern of a wrought iron garden gate, while the Walled Garden bracelet is intertwined with iridescent sapphires and tiny diamond flowers. A multi-hued necklace Poppy Meadow is a highlight for the décolletage, yet it is the simplest charm bracelet with its delicate lock motif that brings us back to the heartwarming tale. All proceeds are donated to the NSPCC and if ever there was a reason to invest in jewellery this is it.
