Road Closures, Parking Restrictions In Effect For Some DC Streets

WASHINGTON, DC — Due to the number of First Amendment demonstrations expected to take place this weekend in the District, D.C. Government has closed streets and implemented parking restrictions near the White House and National Mall, according to a police release.

Metropolitan Police Department is also reminding the public that D.C. law prohibits anyone from carrying a firearm within 1,000 feet of a First Amendment demonstration. This prohibition included individuals who have been issued a Concealed Carry Permit by the D.C. Government.

As of 6 p.m., Thursday, the following streets have Emergency No Parking signs posted. These will remain in affect until 11:59 p.m., Sunday:

• H Street from 15th Street to 17th Street
• I Street from 15th Street to 17th Street
• Connecticut Avenue from H Street, N.W. to L Street, N.W.
• Vermont Avenue from H Street, NW to L Street, N.W.
• 15th Street from I Street to K Street, N.W. (west side of McPherson Square)
• 17th Street from I Street to K Street, N.W. (east side of Franklin Square)

Emergency No Parking Signs will be posted on the following streets at 2 p.m., Friday, and will be in effect until 11:59 p.m., Sunday.

All vehicles in violation of the Emergency No Parking signs will be ticketed and towed.

The following streets will be restricted to vehicular traffic from approximately 6 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., Saturday. Public safety officials will determine the need for restricting vehicles on the streets below and may allow vehicles to travel through restricted areas if the drivers are on essential business or traveling to and from their residence.
