Police and firefighter/paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 11:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2020 to a report of an apartment fire at 2415 North Kennicott Drive in Arlington Heights.

Upon arrival firefighters reported smoke showing from a 2-story apartment building and upgraded the fire to a working fire response by 11:07 p.m. Residents evacuated the building on their own. There were initially no injuries reported at the apartment fire scene.

Firefighters from Buffalo Grove, Palatine and Prospect Heights were assigned with a mutual aid response to the scene of the working fire.

A primary search on the first floor was clear by 11:26 p.m. A primary search on the second floor fire unit and hallway was also clear by 11:26 p.m.

Firefighters were pulling ceiling on the second floor and checking for extension by 11:27 p.m. Firefighters used an attic ladder to get up to the attic from the second floor interior. Firefighters also discovered fire in a wall with fire extension into the attic by 11:30 p.m.

Firefighters started cutting a hole in the roof by about 11:32 p.m. Firefighters vented heat and smoke out of the roof, and reported no visible fire in the holes.

There was no extension of fire to the unit just east of the unit that was on fire. Fire was reported stopped by 11:42 p.m. Units below may have had water damage from fire hose water and a burst building water line inside the affected unit.

Firefighters worked on overhaul and continued to search for fire extension and any unsafe conditions.

ComEd disconnected power to the apartment building remotely and responded to the scene to assure safe conditions. Nicor was also on scene to shut off the gas.
