Is HB ‘ESA Support Related Component’ the same as SDP?

I’ve a client who is on contributory ESA at present, but the LA are paying HB which includes an ‘ESA Support Related Component’

Is this the same as the Severe Disability Premium, and would therefore mean the client’s under the SDP ‘Gateway’ whereby they don’t have to claim UC but can remain on Legacy benefits until next year?

Or does ‘ESA Support Related Component’ refer to something else?

The LA paying the HB are aware he’s just getting contributory ESA.

Thanks in advance

Assume it is just a reference to the increased applicable amount in HB, due to being in the support group for ESA.

If you client otherwise meets the criteria for the SDP (PIP, living alone etc) you can ask for this to be included (and backdated) in both their HB and as an income based top-up to the ESA (contributory or not), and your client would then fall under the SDP gateway.
