A home with an exceptionally famous former owner on the street known as “Billionaire’s Row” in Palm Beach, Florida, has sold for $36 million. It is the one-time beach house of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, who purchased it in 1980, shortly before the former Beatle was shot and killed outside his New York City home.

Interestingly, the musical couple reportedly never visited the seven-bedroom beachfront mansion before buying it. Instead, they sent people to take pictures of it for them so they could remain anonymous during the purchasing process. After they acquired the house, they had plans for major renovations, which Ono eventually did complete after Lennon’s death. She sold the property in 1986 for $3.15 million.

Originally built by architect Addison Mizner in 1919, the Spanish-style dwelling has a stucco exterior and terra-cotta roof tiles. The interior of the 14,000-square-foot residence still retains an air of over-the-top opulence, with details like intricately patterned ceilings in multiple rooms, numerous chandeliers, and grand French doors taking up an entire wall of the formal dining room to provide a beautiful view of the pool and ocean. Other amenities on the 1.3-acre property include a three-car garage, two pools, tennis courts, beach access, and a cabana.

In addition to the home’s A-list pedigree, there are quite a few famous neighbors. Rod Stewart is one, and author James Patterson lives right next door. El Solano actually shares a wall with Patterson’s guest apartment, which is connected to his main house via a second-floor walkway. Therefore, an aerial view of the two homes makes it look like they are connected, although one can not actually access Patterson’s home from inside Lennon and Ono’s former estate.
