Police and firefighter/paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 11:33 p.m. Saturday, October 24, 2020 to a report of a large dumpster fire in front of a house under construction in the block of 900 North Beverly Avenue in Arlington Heights.

Firefighters on arrival discovered a fire in a 30-40 foot dumpster on the driveway in front of a house under construction less than five feet from a new house with construction nearly completed.

The crew from Engine 2 hit the contents of the dumpster with a deck gun and knocked down the flames within seconds. Heavy white smoke persisted, blowing from northwest to southeast. Firefighters worked to fully extinguished the fire and checked for extension to the house and attached garage with a thermal camera.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters worked on overhaul to cleanup the area of the debris from the fire. Arlington Heights police are investigating.

The incident marks the second fire involving a trash can or dumpster in front of an attached garage in 15 days. On Saturday, October 10, 2020. On Saturday, October 24, 2020 a passerby pulled a burning “toter” hard plastic garbage can away from under an attached garage soffit at a house on Euclid Avenue, just east of Prindle Avenue.

Both fires posed a risk of extending to a valuable structure and causing a serious house fire. There has been no official word that these fires are suspicious, but having two similar fires in the same time frame is cause for concern.

The information in this article is an early report published before any summary information was confirmed or released by police or fire authorities.
