Will Muschamp admits to being 'outcoached and outplayed' in blowout loss at LSU
It was an ugly loss in Tiger Stadium for South Carolina in a 52-24 loss to LSU on Saturday night.
The Gamecocks got off to a rough start, and trailed 31-10 at halftime in a game where LSU started freshman QB T.J. Finley in place of the injured Myles Brennan. The Gamecocks missed three field goals, allowed a kickoff return for a touchdown, threw a Pick Six and had seven penalties for 55 yards. LSU also came up with five sacks.
The Gamecocks dropped to 2-3 and are off next week before they play host to Texas A&M on Nov. 7.
Here’s a sampling of what coach Will Muschamp told the media after the game:
Will Muschamp: “We got out coached and out played. Just call it how it is.” Felt that they moved the ball and did some good things offensively but said the defense’s performance tonight was disappointing. @wachfox

Will Muschamp: “We got outcoached and outplayed, bottom line.
“Offensively, we missed three field goals. One of them was probably on me, it was a little far.”

Muschamp: Knows missed an opportunity to do something big at LSU, but every SEC game is a big opportunity, Texas A&M will be a big opportunity. #Gamecocks

Muschamp: Not all the blame goes on offensive line for sacks and pressure on Hill, sometimes held the ball to long, routes were run wrong, they did run the ball well behind the line. #Gamecocks

Muschamp: Really upset with inability to stop the run, that’s been three straight games, need to work on that. #Gamecocks
— SportsTalk (@sportstalksc) October 25, 2020
Muschamp: Was concerned of the size of the LSU OL coming into the game, concerned him about them getting the run game going and their ability to put pressure on Finley. #Gamecocks

Muschamp on Ernest Jones:
“We need to have more guys play like he plays.”

Muschamp: Giving up 14 points when defense is not on the field makes it hard to win. #Gamecocks
— SportsTalk (@sportstalksc) October 25, 2020
Muschamp: Out coached, out played, didn’t get off any blocks, didn’t tackle, knew coming in LSU would try to run the ball, got beat in man coverage several times, had to move a man inside against run, they moved ball well on offense, missed three field goals. #Gamecocks
— SportsTalk (@sportstalksc) October 25, 2020
Muschamp: Rushed 4, when they brought 5 they got displaced in the running game, have to go back and see why they can’t get pressure with 4. #Gamecocks

Was the pick-6 more on Hill or more on Brooks?
Muschamp: “Both.”
