A Palatine mother and her daughter face drug charges after they were arrested following an undercover investigation in September and October 2020 by the Illinois State Police North Central Narcotics Task Force, and a police traffic stop on Wednesday, October 14, 2020.

According to prosecutors, an undercover state police officer met with Maria Basulto-Alcazar on multiple occasions beginning on September 18, 2020 and arranged to purchase 4.1 grams of cocaine from her for $275 in the block of 1500 North Rand Road in Palatine (near Dundee Road). On September 25, 2020, the undercover officer purchased 18.4 grams of cocaine from her for $1,100. Then he paid the same amount on October 6, 2020 for 18.7 grams of cocaine, according to Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Loukas Kalliantasis. On Wednesday, October 14, 2020, the undercover officer met with Maria Basulto-Alcazar to purchase 28.8 grams of cocaine for $1,500.

Elena Basulto-Alcazar was in the passenger’s seat of a vehicle that police stopped for a traffic violation Wednesday, October 14, 2020 in the block of 1700 North Rand Road in Palatine. After the stop, Elena Basulto-Alcazar tried to leave the scene with a backpack, according to Kalliantasis. After searching the backpack, officers recovered more than 5.9 grams of cocaine, a digital scale and multiple canisters with suspected marijuana.

Maria Basulto-Alcazar, 35, is charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance. She was ordered held without bail Thursday, October 15, 2020 in Rolling Meadows because, prosecutors say, Basulto-Alcazar is on probation for a 2019 conviction for manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance.

Elena Basulto-Alcazar, 18, is charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. She was ordered held on a $20,000 I-bond, which allows release from custody with no payment required. An I-bond is usually applied to defendants with no previous arrests while the current criminal activity did not involve violence, gang activity, child victims or elderly victims. The judge set the bond amount of $20,000, and if the defendant violates any condition set forth by the judge, Basulto-Alcazar must pay the full amount of the bond.

Maria Basulto-Alcazar has court dates on October 30, 2020 and November 5, 2020 — both at Cook County Circuit Court in Rolling Meadows.

The court date for Elena Basulto-Alcazar was not initially known.
