Former Detroit Catholic Central baseball star Charles Haeger, 37, was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on a Grand Canyon trail Saturday evening. He is suspected of shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend, Danielle Breed, 34.

Haeger's abandoned grey 2020 Chrysler Voyager was found near Flagstaff on Saturday, according to a report published by the Arizona Republic.

Haeger, who is the younger brother of former Madonna head baseball coach Greg Haeger, graduated from Catholic Central in 2001.

Haeger pitched for Boston, San Diego, Los Angeles and Seattle in a Major League Baseball career that ended in 2010.

Scottsdale police responded to a call about the sound of gunfire on Friday and arrived at a residence near North Hayden Road and East McCormick Parkway around 6:50 p.m., the Republic reported.

Breed's roommate reportedly returned to his home and heard shots coming from her room, police said. Moments later, he saw Haeger come out of the room holding a handgun. Haeger then pointed the gun on the roommate, according to police, but the roommate was able to get away and call 911.
