Two Barrington teens have died within a week of each other, and within a week of a high-speed crash with a truck and trailer in Wauconda, according to the Lake County coroner’s office statement late Wednesday, September 30, 2020.

The two female teens, who were traveling in a red BMW 325i, died while hospitalized after the driver crashed the BMW into the back of a trailer hauling a bulldozer by a dump truck.

Aria Albertelli, 19, of Barrington and her 16-year-old passenger, whose identity was not initially released, were transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville after the crash that occurred about 1:35 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2020 near Tri-State Marine, 2953 North Route 12 in Wauconda — just south of Case Road.

Aria Albertelli died late Friday night, September 27, 2020. Preliminary autopsy results determined the cause of death was blunt-force trauma.

The 16-year-old teen died Wednesday, September 30, 2020 also from blunt-force trauma suffered in the crash.

“We have been in close contact with both families, and our deepest condolences go out to them during this difficult time. This is truly a tragedy,”

— Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper

The 69-year-old man driving the truck was not injured. The preliminary investigation indicated that the driver of the Mack dump truck was pulling out from a private drive in the block of 29000 Route 12 with the intent to travel northbound on Route 12.

Police report that Aria Albertelli was the driver, speeding in a BMW 325i about 1:35 p.m. Friday, before she struck the back of the Mack dump truck and trailer as the driver of the truck was entering northbound Route 12 just south of Case Road. The truck was hauling a trailer with a bulldozer on it. According to a witness, the driver of the BMW collided into the rear end of the Mack truck and trailer at a high rate of speed.

Tire marks apparently show the driver of the BMW was in the left lane (middle lane when including the left turn lane) and was braking while the vehicle veered right before impact. The truck driver was pulling out from a gravel private driveway, just north of the Tri-State Marine building. The Speed Limit on Rand Road (US-12/IL-59) is 55 MPH according to a Google Maps Street View image captured October 2019.
