The pilot says his aircraft lost power and the single-engine Cessna landed on Quentin Road in Palatine Thursday evening. CBS 2’s Charlie De Mar reports.
Police and firefighter/paramedics from Palatine responded about 6:12 p.m. Thursday, September 17, 2020 to a report of an aircraft crash landing at Quentin Road and Northwest Highway on the west side of Quentin Road.
Early report is that a single-engine aircraft landed in a roadway and slid into the backyard at Quentin Road and Colfax Street.
UPDATE …
The pilot is reported to exited the plane on his own, and there initially was no fire reported. No injuries were initially reported by the pilot or anyone in the neighborhood.
The aircraft may have landed on Quentin Road from Northwest Highway toward Colfax Street.
ABC 7 Chicago, CBS Chicago, Fox 32 Chicago, and WGN News all overhead at scene.
According to flightradar24.com, the aircraft flew two clockwise circles at an altitude of about 2,000 feet from Chicago Executive Airport to the south side of Chicago near I-55 and the Lake Michigan shoreline, before losing data over Arlington Heights at an altitude of 1600 feet, and crashing in Palatine.
According to the FAA Registry, the aircraft with N-Number “N2699V” is a Cessna 177RG, also known as a “Cessna 177RG Cardinal RG.”
The FAA registry reports that the aircraft’s registration status may not be suitable for operation, and that the registration was pending. However, the FAA also declares, “The information contained in this record should be the most current Airworthiness information available in the historical aircraft record. However, this data alone does not provide the basis for a determination regarding the airworthiness of an aircraft or the current aircraft configuration. For specific information, you may request a copy of the aircraft record at http://aircraft.faa.gov/e.gov/ND/”
The FAA lists an application dated 06/17/2020 for “APPLICANT ZAIN AVIATION INC.” According to the official website for Zain Aviation, the business provides scenic flights and aerial tours, flight instruction, and aircraft rental.
