Primo Hoagies, a sandwich shop on Fort Evans Road in Leesburg, has quietly closed its doors. But not before posting a note on their front door that perfectly encapsulates what so many small restaurants are facing during the pandemic.
The message reads, in part: “We are grateful to all of you that supported us during these difficult times, but it became overwhelming and draining of funds. We hope that you understand our disappointment.”
It’s a brutal time to be a small restauranteur. From what we are hearing from local owners, even with 50 percent seating, and makeshift outdoor patios and carry out and delivery, most are making nowhere near what they made pre pandemic. And restaurants usually operate on razor thin margins, meaning there was little wiggle room to begin with.
Primo Hoagies had been serving up all types of Philadelphia and South Jersey style sandwiches since 2012 from its storefront in the same shopping plaza as Hobby Lobby, near the Home Depot.
We were in the process of looking for a new location because too many things had changed at the current spot.. then this… ooof, now what. We quietly had the place for sale and had a buyer but, I think he got cold feet because of ‘this’. I dont blame him for backing out.
I hope you find another spot and re-open. Please keep us posted via social media so we can support you in the new location.
It was terrible to get the news that you guys had to close your doors. I had just stopped last Wednesday but the voicemail said for equipment repairs so I was hoping but my wife told me this weekend a friend of ours saw the article.
My favorite place for sandwiches closed because of all this. You guys were great and this is definitely a loss for Leesburg.
I hope you and Lem are doing ok. Let me know about The Pedal Shop. I have a Trek, maybe I can stop in and see you sometime.
Take care.

This is a loss for Leesburg. The owners were great. The food was very good.
I hope the owners can find a new place to open in the Leesburg area, maybe after this pandemic situation improves. This was truly a place where I could get great sandwiches, it’s not just a name.
Great sandwiches, nothing better around here, really going to miss them. I hope they have the opportunity to return.
Enjoyed their subs, just was not a great location for getting in and out of in Leesburg. Right now, restaurants are not a good business to be in. I’m sure it didn’t help that people were making more on unemployment vs working.
Please let me know if u reopen anywhere–Am from Alexandria but found your Bread and excellent quality clod cuts to be the BEST=
