You'll have to forgive us for missing it on the day itself, but yesterday was officially National Ash Ketchum Day – according to The Pokémon Company, anyway.
"What on Earth is National Ash Ketchum Day?" we hear you cry. Well, it all stems from a fan-made hashtag that started doing the rounds on 15th September 2019. If you haven't seen the Sun and Moon arc of the Pokémon anime and don't want to hear about any spoilers, we suggest you return to safety immediately.
All good? Good.
On that date last year, an episode of the show titled 'Enter the Champion!' aired in Japan. In the episode, the show's star Ash Ketchum finally won his first ever Pokémon League championship, sparking the trend to spread on Twitter. After seeing all the commotion last year, The Pokémon Company has decided to join in the fun and celebrate along with its fans.

Yesterday, the company shared the video you see above, reminiscing over Ash's first ever Pokémon League appearance. It's also been sharing throwback posts on social media.
If you've been watching Ash's journey over the past 20 years, this was a pretty special moment. Clearly the moral of the story is that you can achieve anything you put your mind to with enough dedication – so long as you have the ability to never age and keep trying for the rest of time.
Happy (late) National Ash Ketchum Day, everyone!

Funny how there is an officially National Ash Ketchum Day yet he appearently hasn't aged a day since the beginning of the anime
One of the most annoying and grating protagonists in television history come at me
How to have the best ash ketchum day
1: Get all of your pokemon out of the pokemon center.
2: Make your pokemon gather around.
3 make the curry.
4: injoy with all your pokemon.
did you really think this would end in a joke, Ok here is a joke knock knock, here is there, as, as who? assh ketchup.
@TheFrenchiestFry Literally on what basis?
Goh is proving to be a better heir to the name "Ketchum" if Serebii's frequent character biography updates are anything to go by.
I am just glad that we do not have Ash in the main games.
Red > Ash
@EliteXeos He talks.
Woo international Ass Catching day!
I thought it was funny he never won until S&M. I love the Pokémon anime. And I’m jealous of the US because I don’t have Teletoon. ):
I'm just gonna leave this here:

A*s Ketchup
How many "National" days does this make? It was cute when there were just a few of them, but this ongoing trend is now just annoying, especially after National Hunting & Fishing Day. I suppose there's a National Ketchup Day as well. 🙄
I became Ash Ketchum during costume day at my school last 2 years (2018). 😏

I've never played a Pokemon game, but I enjoyed Ash Ketchum vs Charles Darwin on Epic Rap Battles of History.
@mariomaster96 It's the anniversary of an accomplishment, him not ageing is irrelevant.
@Tyranexx Ash focuses on battling while Go focuses on catching.
@Zuljaras The only good Red is the one from the Adventures manga. Also, Ash has had a slew of references in the games.
@TheFrenchiestFry That explains literally nothing. Unless you’re watching the dub in which case, that’s your first mistake.
There is a national day for everything these days, doesn’t hurt to have a bit of fun.
Yesterday was also the anniversary of the Battle of Britain where a vastly outnumbered British Royal Air Force defeated a much larger and better equipped Nazi airforce during World War II.
We owe a great debt to those brave souls.
What about Satoshi day?
@EliteXeos
1. Winning a league doesn't undo the overall terrible writing of the character.
2. Seeing that Ash's goal has literally no end in sight, I think Go's being a bit more productive overall in filling out the Pokédex.
3. It's not hard to be a better guy than Ash, which is what Red's done.
4. Ash is horrible in both the original and the dub. His voice is grating because he has far outstayed his welcome in the show.
The best thing that can be done to the Pokémon anime is to let it die.
@EliteXeos Which is all well and good, but didn't one of the first episodes in the anime equate being a Pokemon Master with catching them all? I won't deny Ash has picked up some better Pokemon over the years, but Goh's track record will pass him up at this rate.
I also think you took my comment WAY too seriously.
@Dog Red has done literally NOTHING. Ash has far more accomplishments yet people still lap up Red for being nothing more than a bland, mute self-insert.
And I’m pretty sure that not liking a character’s voice has nothing to do with a character over-staying there welcome. Moot point.
@Tyranexx I took your comment “way” too seriously because I’m an acid fan of the anime, it’s only natural.
That said, a Pokemon Master being someone that catches them all is incorrect and is only a line said in the dub.
That would be my Favorite Day!!!
