#ad▼

Antioch Police Department responded about 7:00 p.m. Labor Day, September 7, 2020 to investigate a bomb threat at the Walmart, 475 East Route 173 in Antioch. The business was evacuated, and Antioch Police Department asked the public to stay away from the area on Monday.

The Antioch Police Department deemed the area safe. The Lake County Sheriff Office assisted at the scene with an Explosive Detection K9 Team. The Lake Villa Police Department also assisted Antioch Police Department.

Residents in the area expressed concern whether the bomb threat was related to a Kenosha riots shooting incident which resulted in Antioch resident Kyle Rittenhouse in custody in Antioch awaiting extradition to Kenosha County to face charges after three rioters were shot and killed on Tuesday night August 25, 2020, or whether the incident was a random incident.

Locally, a bomb threat was investigated on November 15, 2017 at the Rolling Meadows store, and a bomb threat was investigated at the Lake Zurich Walmart on December 28, 2017.

In August 2007 several bomb threats were investigated at up to 30 stores in multiple states related to a money scam, and in July 2012 bomb threats were investigated at 11 Walmart locations.

The store at the northwest corner of Route 173 and Deep Lake Road was checked inside and outside, and no explosive devices were located. Antioch police said the scene was investigated and the case remains an active investigation and those responsible will be held accountable.

Any citizens with any information or any witnesses to anything suspicious connected to this incident are urged to contact the Antioch Police Department dispatch center at 847-270-9111.
