CLOVIS, Calif. — A man carrying a rifle was fatally shot by police in a Walmart parking lot early Sunday morning.
It was unclear why, but a man in his mid 20s was armed with “a weapon that resembled a rifle” around 1:37 a.m. when officers with the Clovis Police Department arrived at the store, KMPH reported.

Officers tried to get the man to put down the weapon but he refused, KFSN reported. One of the officers then shot him. The victim was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries.
The officers’ body camera footage will be reviewed as part of the investigation.
The victim and officers have not been identified.
