Pedestrian Hit, Killed on Westbound I-90 Between Arlington Heights Rd and Route 53 Near Rolling Meadows

Pedestrian on I-90 hit by FedEx Semi-Trailer truck and possible a second box truck near Rolling Meadows.

Illinois State Police and firefighter/paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 10:04 a.m. Thursday, August 13, 2020 to a report of a pedestrian hit by a FedEx truck in the westbound lanes at Mile Marker 69.0. Initial reports from callers were incorrect, placing the incident near Meacham Road and then near Route 53.

Illinois State Police and Arlington Heights firefighter/paramedics discovered the pedestrian down near the left shoulder, near the center median barrier of the westbound lanes.




Illinois State Police investigated much of the afternoon, keeping at least two left lanes closed. Two truck were involved in the incident — a Fedex semi-trailer truck (tandem tractor trailer), and a white box truck.

Traffic was backed up at least to Arlington Heights Road around noon and afternoon. Officials reported at about 10:30 a.m. that the backup extended to Mile Marker 70.25, which is near the east end of the back of the Meijer store. Mile Marker 69.0 is near the back of the Gallagher complex.

Traffic was moving well by 4:00 p.m.

IDOT HELP Truck crews provided lanes closures, and provided traffic scene safety at the scene.

Initially there was no information released regarding why the pedestrian was on Interstate 90. Illinois State Police are investigating the fatal pedestrian incident.
