Mourners lit candles and arranged them beneath a string of balloons that read "Bubba" in honor of a man killed in a Dunkin' parking lot on Broad Street early Saturday.

PROVIDENCE — Dozens of mourners holding white balloons gathered Saturday evening in the parking lot of a Dunkin’ on Broad Street where a man was killed earlier that morning.

The man, Delron Fields, 35, of Providence, was shot to death in the parking lot at 135 Broad St. around 12:10 a.m., according to police Maj. David Lapatin.

Police identified the victim in a news release Sunday, an investigation is ongoing.

At the vigil, mourners lit tall candles and placed them in formation beneath a string of balloons that read “Bubba.” Mourners on scene, including members of the man’s family, declined to speak to a reporter.

Some cried and wailed, and one young woman yelled, “It’s not fair!” through tears.

Mark Fisher, an organizer with Black Lives Matter Rhode Island, addressed the group.

“My heart is broken right now,” he said, as he held hands with the man’s grandmother. “This is it. We can’t take anymore. It’s too much. We’ve got so many problems in our community that something like this could take us over the tipping point. It’s too much, God. This is too much for us to handle.

“I didn’t know this young man,” he said, “but by all accounts this is something that not only did he not deserve, but something that we’ll never be able to come to terms with. So we’ll carry this with us, along with so many other scars, pain, hurt, heartbreak and suffering.”
