Danish football journalist Martin Mikkelsen believes that Inter attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen has lost his confidence and shared his belief that Inter are unlikely to build the team around him.

Inter snapped Eriksen up in a circa €20 million deal from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur but has failed to live up to expectations since his arrival in Italy during the most recent January transfer window.

The Danish national team player has found himself in and out of the team since joining the Nerazzurri on a four and a half year deal and has scored three goals and provided as many assists in 21 appearances across all competitions to date.

“Eriksen has not been a success at Inter. In the first match back after lockdown against Sampdoria, Eriksen was in a good mood and was named the best on the field after Antonio Conte changed his lineup so that Eriksen could play as a playmaker,” Mikkelsen explained in an interview with Danish broadcaster TV2 Sport earlier on today.

“After that game though, Eriksen almost vanished and it appears that he has lost confidence and desire. He has had chances but he was unusually under par, also from the point of view of showing off his skills.”

Mikkelsen proceeded to speak on the chances of Inter building the squad around the former Ajax player and how Eriksen has gotten on working under a manager such as Inter’s Antonio Conte.

“Conte changing the lineup can be seen as a willingness to field Eriksen as an attacking midfielder. If I’m not mistaken, it seems that Conte is very much in doubt about Eriksen at the moment, after what he has seen.

“The immediate impression is that he is trying to look for other ways. I don’t think Eriksen is a player that Inter are building the team around for the new season.

“It didn’t work as he hoped, so I think he’s looking the other way and I don’t think he’s feel at home at Inter to tell the truth. Inter is such a big club and Conte is such a demanding coach that he doesn’t have much patience.

“He wants results immediately. So I could imagine Eriksen saying that he lacks a little bit of confidence from his manager.”
