Police and firefighter/paramedics from Lake Zurich responded about 1:43 a.m. Sunday July 12, 2020 to a report of a house fire in the block of 21000 Highland Drive in Lake Zurich.

The first arriving fire units reported heavy smoke and fire showing through the roof. Lake Zurich incident command confirmed occupants were out of the house and were safely evacuated. Fire companies quickly deployed multiple hose lines to begin fire attack and extinguishment, and later deployed an elevated master stream operation to gain control of the fire.

The homeowner was assessed by paramedics for any possible injuries. Also two firefighters were treated and released for minor injuries.




Lake Zurich Incident Command activated a MABAS Division 4 Box Alarm #32-3 to the Box level at 1:53 a.m., and to the Second Alarm level at 2:38 a.m. — receiving assistance from 16 neighboring fire departments.

On the Box Alarm, firefighters from Buffalo Grove, Cary, Fox River Grove, Mundelein, Nunda, Palatine, Palatine Rural, Round Lake, Libertyville responded at 1:53 a.m. Paramedics from Deerfield, and fire chiefs from Countryside, Long Grove, Mundelein, and Wauconda also responded at 1:53 a.m.

Firefighters from Hoffman Estates, Lake Bluff, Rolling Meadows, and Streamwood were assigned to stand by in Lake Zurich fire stations.

The Box Alarm was elevated to a Second Alarm at 2:38 a.m.

Firefighters from Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Crystal Lake, Grayslake, Fox Lake, McHenry, Mount Prospect and Schaumburg responded to the second alarm.

Paramedics from Highland Park were added to the Second Alarm and Fire Chiefs from Arlington Heights, Palatine Mount Prospect were added to the Second Alarm at 2:38 a.m.

Carpentersville and Huntley firefighters responded to stand by in Lake Zurich fire stations for the Second Alarm.

Once the fire was contained, fire companies completed searches and salvage operations.

The home sustained heavy fire, small, and water damage. The preliminary damage is estimated at $300,000 in property and contents loss, according to Lake Zurich Fire Department. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
