Brandis Kemp who starred with Michael Richards on the Eighties TV show Fridays dies at 76 after battling cancer and contracting COVID-19

AfterMASH and Fridays star Brandis Kemp died on Saturday at the age of 76.

The TV veteran passed away at her home in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles with friends and family around her.

The actress, whose real name was Vivian Sally Kemp, was battling brain cancer and had contracted COVID-19, acting coach Myra Turley told The Hollywood Reporter.

She had only been diagnosed with glioblastoma, which is an aggressive type of cancer that usually occurs in the brain, in December when she was 75.

The Reporter did not state when she contracted COVID-19.

Kemp starred on Fridays in the early Eighties alongside Larry David and Michael Richards.

Both of those co-stars worked on Seinfeld. 

And on her spinoff AfterMASH, which aired from 1983 until 1985, she worked with M*A*S*H original Jamie Farr, Harry Morgan and William Christopher. 

After that she appeared on several popular TV shows: Designing Women in 1986, Webster in 1987, The Golden Girls in 1989, Coach in 1990, The Wonder Years in 1992, and Grace Under Fire in 1983.

In 1996 she popped up on Chicago Hope then the following year she played a nurse on ER.

Her last role was on the 2003 TV show Miracles.

She was friends with Andy Kaufmanand Melanie Chartoff, and was a member of the comedy group Low Moan Spectacular. 

The star grew up in Palo Alto, California and attended three colleges: San Jose State College, Stanford University (master's degree) and the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco.

The redheaded star wed actor Mark Blankfield but divorced in 1987.

The avid gardener is survived by her niece Sharon Le, and her nephews, David and Scott Ronsse. 

Kemp will be buried in the family plot in Mount Shasta Memorial Park in California.
