Two Pedestrians Killed, Hit by Driver of a Toyota Tundra at Hobson Rd and College Rd/Wehrli Rd in Naperville

Police and firefighter/paramedics from Naperville responded about 6:04 p.m. Wednesday June 10, 2020 to a report of a vehicle crash with two pedestrian at Hobson Road and College Road (Wehrli Road) in east Naperville.

The two pedestrians, a 77-year-old man and a 71-year-old woman, were both transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries, according to Naperville Police Department. The man, who was in traumatic cardiac arrest at the scene, was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. The woman was pronounced dead the next day, Thursday, June 11, 2020. Firefighter/paramedics responded with two ambulances, an engine crew, a truck crew and several other personnel.

Naperville police department said they responded Wednesday approximately 6:04 p.m. to the intersection of Hobson Road and College Road for a crash involving two pedestrians and a black 2017 Toyota Tundra driven by a 64-year-old female resident of Naperville.

Police said their initial investigation revealed that the Toyota driver was traveling north on Wehril Road in the left turn lane and proceeded to make the turn to go west on Hobson Road. The car then struck both pedestrians, who were walking north along Hobson Road in the crosswalk.

Members of the Naperville Traffic Unit trained in accident investigation and reconstruction responded to the scene for the investigation. The intersection of Hobson and College (Wehrli) was closed and traffic was rerouted until the intersection was reopened at approximately 8:16 p.m. The crash investigation is on-going following the on-scene investigation.

The Speed Limit on Wehrli Road is 40 MPH, according to Google Maps Street View captured on October 2018. Wehrli Road becomes College Road north of Hobson Road. The Speed Limit on Hobson Road is 45 MPH, according to Google Maps Street View captured on August 2019.
