Jas Waters, 'This Is Us' Writer, Dead At 39

The cast of This Is Us is mourning the loss of one of its seminal figures on the show. Jas Waters, a writer on the hit NBC family drama, passed away at the age of 39. A cause of death remains to be revealed.

Waters’ untimely death was confirmed by the This Is Us writers Twitter account on Wednesday (June 10). "The entire #ThisIsUs family was devastated to learn of Jas Waters passing. In our time together, Jas left her mark on us and ALL over the show,” the account wrote with a photograph of Waters. “She was a brilliant storyteller and a force of nature. We send our deepest sympathies to her loved ones. She was one of us. RIP @JasFly.”

In her lifetime, Waters was an author, former journalist, and television personality whose writing credits spanned from 2018's Showtime comedy series, Kidding, to her time on This Is Us.

In the wake of the devastating news, a myriad of Waters' fans and coworkers on the show have been flooding social media with heartfelt tributes dedicated to Waters.

"This news took my breath away. Jas was absolutely brilliant and had so many stories still to tell,” show creator Dan Fogelman tweeted. “She made an indelible mark on our show and my heart breaks for her loved ones. RIP @JasFly."

Mandy Moore, who portrays Rebecca Pearsonon the show, wrote, "Sending love and light to @JasFly’s family and loved ones."

"Incredibly shocked and saddened to have just received this news. Blessed Light, fly with the angels. @JasFly #jaswaters,” Susan Kelechi Watson, who plays Beth Pearson, reacted.

Chrissy Metz, who plays Moore’s daughter, Kate Pearson, on the show, posted the following tribute to Waters: "We were graced with @JasFly on the show as a fantastic writer but to know her and her beautiful spirit was to love her. I am praying for your beautiful transition, Jas. May it be full of love, light and peace. Thank you for the time we shared, your fearlessness and inspiration."
