Steve Spurrier’s offensive system helped Reche Caldwell become one of the top wide receivers in college football.

Caldwell had a ridiculous amount of talent, but Spurrier’s Fun ‘n’ Gun system allowed the receiver to develop into a second-round NFL Draft pick and become one of top pass catchers in school history. Caldwell was tragically killed Saturday night in his hometown of Tampa, Florida. During his career at Florida from 1999-2001, Caldwell caught 141 passes for 2,088 yards and 18 touchdowns.

The receiver was then selected in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers. He played for 4 different teams during his professional career — Chargers (2002-05), Patriots (2006), Redskins (2007) and Rams (2008).

On Sunday, Spurrier took to Twitter to offer condolences following Caldwell’s tragic death.

Caldwell was 41.
