MELROSE, MA — The city has launched curbside pickup parking to help customers and retailers alike during coronavirus restrictions on businesses.

Curbside pickup parking is designated by red parking signs in high-traffic business areas like Main Street, West Wyoming Ave. and Cedar Park. Someone must always remain in the vehicle when in a spot, but the customer can either have someone run into a business to pick up or call the business to bring their order outside.

"The parking spaces will benefit shops like mine that are not yet opened to the public but canstill fulfill customer orders," Lorrie DiCesare, owner of Hourglass Gift Gallery, said in a press release. "It also allows us to serve customers in a safe way."

The innovation is a product of Mayor Paul Brodeur's Small Business Task Force, which has announced several possible initiatives to help boost small business during the pandemic.

"The Small Business Task Force has been talking to business owners to determine what the feel is going to be most beneficial and we will adjust and make changes using their ongoing feedback," Lauren Grymek, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, said.
