Misusing position over RM29,580 deal: Headmistress’ trial in July
Kota Kinabalu: A 57-year-old headmistress, charged with using her position to give her son’s company the Supplementary Food Programme (RMT) contract worth RM29,580, will go trial on July 20-22.

Sessions Court Judge Abu Bakar Manat fixed the date for Margreth Francis @ Majidah when her case was brought for mention to fix trial date.

She is accused of using her position as the headmistress of SK Solob in Sipitang, by appointing Hakim Enterprise which belongs to her son Hafizul Hakim Abdul Majid, through an offer letter to supply the food for 2016 at the school on Jan 7, 2016. The offence, under Section 23(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 and punishable under Section 24 of the same Act, carries a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the amount of bribe received or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.

The court also ordered the prosecution to tender to court the list of exhibits and witnesses.

The witness statements should also be tendered and served to parties seven days prior to the trial date.

Meanwhile, the court set June 10 for mention of a case involving two persons, one of them a soldier, charged with gang robbery.

Rapikah Pathan, 24, and soldier Mohd Shah Haddan M Shahrir, 30, are accused of robbing one Azwan Mohd Amin, 26, of his smartphone and a car key at 9pm on Nov 15, 2019 at the Kota Kinabalu Craft Market.

They allegedly committed the offence together with several accomplices still at large.
