Video: Justin Fields Ultimate HighlightsHigh school football highlights of Ohio State's star quarterback.
Several of the best recent quarterbacks in high school football have been featured on Netflix's hit series 'QB1: Beyond the Lights.'
Jake Fromm was selected in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft and starred in the show's first season.
Two
Heisman favorites heading into the 2020 college football campaign were
featured over the next two seasons —
Justin Fields and
Spencer Rattler.
Young was named the
MaxPreps Co-National Player of the Year after throwing for over 4,500 yards and 58 touchdowns as a senior. He's expected to make an immediate impact as a true freshman for Nick Saban and Alabama in the fall.
Richardson signed with Florida last December after finished his high school career with 6,266 total yards (4,633 passing, 1,633 rushing) and 78 touchdowns (37 passing, 41 rushing).
Here's a look at the players featured in show's first three season and where they are now.
Season 1
Jake Fromm, Houston County (Warner Robins, Ga.): The former Peach State star ranks third all-time in Georgia high school football history with 12,745 career passing yards, only trailing
Trevor Lawrence and
Deshaun Watson.
During three years as the starting quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs he threw
for over 8,000 yards and 78 touchdowns while going 36-7. The Buffalo Bills selected him in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft and he will be competing for the backup job entering his rookie season.
Tayvon Bowers, Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg, Pa.): During his final two years of high school he accounted for 5,439 total yards (4,988 passing, 451 rushing) and 66 touchdowns (57 passing, nine rushing). The former 3-star recruit recently transferred to Gardner-Webb University after spending his first three years of college at Wake Forest.
Season 2
Justin Fields, Harrison (Kennesaw, Ga.): Ended his high school career as the No. 2 rated player in the Class of 2018 according to the 247Sports composite. The former 5-star recruit racked up 6,283 total yards (4,187 passing, 2,096 rushing) and 69 touchdowns (41 passing, 28 rushing) over his final two seasons. He was also named the
MVP of The Opening in 2017. Fields played his first season at Georgia then transferred to Ohio State before his sophomore campaign. He led the Buckeyes to the College Football Playoff, throwing for nearly 3,300 yards and 41 touchdowns in 2019. He added another 400-plus yards rushing and 10 scores. He finished third in the Heisman Trophy race and is the
favorite to win it next season.
Re-al Mitchell, St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.): As a junior he led the Southern California power to a CIF Open Division state championship. He accounted for 3,990 total yards (2,932 passing, 1,058 rushing) and 45 touchdowns (30 passing, 15 rushing). The Braves finished the 2016 season as the No. 5 team in the country. During his senior season he split time under center with
DJ Uiagalelei, who is now at Clemson. A former track star, Mitchell spent his first two years of college at Iowa State and recently transferred to Temple.
Sam Hartman, Oceanside Collegiate Academy (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.): Threw for nearly 10,000 yards in high school. During his sophomore and junior season at Davidson Day (N.C.) he threw for 6,388 yards and 69 touchdowns and as a senior at Oceanside Collegiate Academy he accounted for over 3,300 total yards and 38 touchdowns. As a true freshman in 2018 at Wake Forest he started nine gamed and threw for nearly 2,000 yards and 16 touchdowns. With Jamie Newman transferring to Georgia back in January, expect Hartman to be the starter this fall with a shot to be one of the ACC's better signal callers.
Season 3
Spencer Rattler, Pinnacle (Phoenix, Ariz.): Finished high school as Arizona's all-time passing leader with 11,083 career yards. He also helped lead Pinnacle to a state title in basketball during his junior season, teaming with potential NBA first round pick
Nico Mannion in the backcourt. Rattler was the top rated quarterback in the Class of 2019. After backing up Jalen Hurts as a freshman, expect a big sophomore campaign at Oklahoma.
Nik Scalzo, Cardinal Gibbons (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.): Threw for over 2,000 yards in each of his final three seasons and put the Chiefs in position to win their first state title in 2018. He went 32-6 as the starting quarterback playing against some of the best competition in Florida. Redshirted his freshman season at Kentucky after tearing his ACL. Expect Scalzo to be in the mix for the starting job in 2020.
Lance LeGendre, Easton (New Orleans, La.): Helped lead Easton to Class 4A state championship game during his senior season. LeGendre was the top quarterback prospect from Louisiana in the Class of 2019. He saw limited action as a true freshman at Maryland last season and will be in the mix in a deep quarterback room in the fall especially if
Taulia Tagovailoa gets a waiver from the NCAA to play in 2020 after transferring from Alabama.
