McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies and firefighter/paramedics from Harvard responded about 10:24 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2020 to a report of a near-drowning in the block of 200 Olbrich Road in Harvard. The parents of a 1 year-old female child were alerted by a 3 year-old sibling that the 1 year-old was in a backyard pond. The child’s parents rescued the girl from the pond and performed CPR. The girl was breathing on her own as Harvard FPD firefighter/paramedics responded to the scene — a rural home on a farm property.

A Mercyhealth REACT medical transport helicopter based in Rockford was activated by about 10:32 a.m. and an MD1 Physician Response Unit out of Fontana, Wisconsin was also dispatched by about 10:34 a.m. Both the helicopter crew and MD1 were diverted to meet the patient at Mercyhealth Hospital and Medical Center–Harvard.

The REACT helicopter was initially assigned to land at the scene, but was diverted to Mercyhealth Hospital and Medical Center–Harvard to meet the Harvard FPD rescue ambulance crew transporting an 18 month-old female patient. The Mercyhealth REACT helicopter crew then transferred the patient to Level II Pediatric Trauma Center Javon Bea Hospital—Riverside with a Pediatric Critical Care Center in the northeast Rockford metropolitan area.
