‘Hamilton’ movie is coming to Disney+ in time for July 4th

The release to streaming comes more than a year earlier than the originally planned theatrical release.

Finally, there’s a reason to feel good about being stuck at home.

The original Broadway production of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Hamilton” is coming to the Disney streaming service Disney+ on July 3. That’s more than a year earlier than its original scheduled theatrical release, which had been set for October 2021.

The musical had been set to open a long run at the Pantages in March, but those performances have been canceled through Sept. 6 (as of this writing).

Filmed at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway in 2016, the cast for the movie includes Miranda in his Tony Award-winning performance of the title role along with Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Leslie Odom Jr., Christopher Jackson, Jonathan Groff, Phillipa Soo, and Jasmine Cephas Jones.

“I’m so proud of how beautifully Tommy Kail has brought ‘Hamilton’ to the screen. He’s given everyone who watches this film the best seat in the house,” said Miranda in a statement. “I’m so grateful to Disney and Disney+ for reimagining and moving up our release to July 4th weekend of this year, in light of the world turning upside down. I’m so grateful to all the fans who asked for this, and I’m so glad that we’re able to make it happen. I’m so proud of this show. I can’t wait for you to see it.”

For those who have been hoping to catch it on stage here in Los Angeles, we can’t wait either.
