A couple of hometown heroes surprised some healthcare workers at Inova Loudoun in Lansdowne last week. They popped up on a video conference call to surprise the attendees and thank them for all they are doing on the front lines of the battle against the coronavirus.
Washington Nationals first baseman Ryan Zimmerman (above in white shirt) and pitcher Max Scherzer (at top) spoke with a group of at least 75 Inova medical professionals as part of Zimmerman’s Pros for Heroes initiative, which provides local healthcare workers in Northern Virginia with personal protective equipment (PPE) as well as hot meals for harried hospital workers.
“I hope you know how much me and my family appreciate what you are doing and more importantly, I think the whole community – DC, Virginia, Maryland,” Zimmerman told the Loudoun team. “You guys are the true heroes in all of this.”
And they weren’t kidding about the hot meals. Not long after the video call, 500 meals — including adobo chicken, adobo beef and a vegetarian option — were delivered to Inova Loudoun’s north tower entrance as a thank you to the whole team there.
