Mike Curtis was an all-time great!

Postby 34Drive » Mon Apr 20, 2020 8:05 pm

Very sorry to hear about the passing of Mike Curtis. NFL Champion. Super Bowl Champion. The heart and soul of the great 1970 Colts Team. Late in his career, he joined the team in preseason 1977 after Hamburger went out with appendicitis. He played for two years and gave it his all. In his return to Memorial Stadium 1977 he went sideline to sideline tackling everyone in sight. Although the Redskins lost the game, Curtis let his former team know that he could still play. I will never forget his last game at RFK, in the last moments of a losing effort against the Bears. He stood by himself, to the right side of the bench area, as far away from his team as possible. Next to him was Bill Kilmer. That is how he ended his career. It was Bill’s last game as well. Rest In Peace Mike!!

I remember him only vaguely. His reputation was that he was tough as nails and ate glass. A true football player. RIP.

He had the one incident with a fan. He was certainly a legend in DC. I recall watching him in 1973 and wishing we had him on our roster.
