What does your weekend hold in store? Around here we’re baking up a storm (again) and watching Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (both of them, if we’re lucky). I hope these interesting reads and fun things give your day a little boost.
My favorite finds from around the web:
- 36 Great Books You Might Not Know About. There’s something for everyone!
- The ‘Call Your Girlfriend’ Co-Hosts On Maintaining Big Friendships In Hard Times. This is really helpful advice.
- I always love these seasonal sets from Sephora.
- A Side Effect of the Covid-19 Pandemic? Reading Got a Lot Harder. “‘It takes a lot of energy to live through history,’ Yaszek said.”
- How A Vegan TikTok Star Became A Daily Pick-Me-Up For Millions Of People. I’m not vegan, nor am I on TikTok, but I am in favor of people who bring joy to others.
- On living through a pandemic… “Sometimes I worry…But I don’t worry for long. Because I’ve read a lot of history, and I know that scary unknowns aren’t unique to our present circumstances.” This is good reframing.
- The reason Zoom calls drain your energy. This makes so much sense.
- 52 Places, Virtually. So many places we can explore from the comfort of our homes.
Don’t miss these posts:
- Louisville City Guide. Bookmark this for future travels to my hometown.
- 15 literary novels that will have you compulsively turning the pages. A long list of books in one of my favorite (and completely made-up) sub-genres: compulsively readable literary fiction.
- My 8 favorite spring-to-summer transition pieces. These are some of the favorite pieces I rely on to gracefully carry me from spring into summer, no matter the weather.
Have a great weekend!

Thank you Anne for such wonderful articles and links today! This just brightened my day. We will be busy at my house this weekend exploring the virtual tours and attempting to make excellent restaurant quality dishes (fingers crossed). Have a great weekend!
Yes, another Zoom meeting. Yay! Sigh.
GREAT links today — thank you!
Please consider avoiding Sephora. Their behavior towards their employees was horrible: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.businessinsider.com/sephora-fires-employees-via-sudden-conference-call-2020-4%3famp
Oh YIKES. I did not know that. Oof.
I have to share a link I love! Anderson’s Books in IL (one of your previously scheduled stops!) has a gofundme to keep afloat (in addition to internet orders and curbside deliveries). They’ve had tremendous community support which is awesome. A little extra awesome? If you look at the list of top donors, there are some authors we all know and love who have made donations to support this book store that is so committed to author events! Book people are wonderful people! https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-keep-anderson039s-bookshops-here
Thank you for the links, Anne! I’ll read them…slowly…absorbing as much as my feeble mind can handle these days. I’m impressed you can manage to gather so many things into a cohesive post. Well done! As for my weekend, I’ll be “traveling” to Germany. My family has chosen a country a week to learn about, sharing interesting trivia facts during weeknight dinners. On the weekends, we celebrate by ordering takeout of that particular cuisine and watching youtube videos of a tour, cultural event or other area of interest each family member has chosen. This weekend, we’re ordering Gasthaus and learning how to make origami German stars (a traditional Christmas decoration). Having a new focus each week has really helped break up the monotony from week to week.
Thank you for Friday’s “Links I Love” post! I have enjoyed learning something new each week and stretching my thinking. You always find the most interesting articles and links! Right now, it is even more of a pleasure after finishing another week of remote learning with 140 6th graders – Sitting down with a glass of wine and luxuriating in some me time. Thank you again for this very simple pleasure!
These are some of the best links ever. So helpful!
