Kota Kinabalu: Only 10 people from each village in Tenom and Kemabong are allowed to enter the town, said Kemabong Assemblyman Jamawi Jaafar.

He said the decision was made following discussion with the Tenom/Kemabong District Disaster Operations Centre (PKOB) in an effort to curb the spread of Covid-1.9.

Jamawi said PKOB is still in the process of readjusting the rule if the number of people in the town could not be controlled during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period.

“The decision may be difficult for some people but this is the best we can do for them as we are trying to avoid the spread of the virus in the district,” he said after receiving a donation of face masks and hand-sanitisers from the State Government at the Sabah State Assembly Hall here.

Jamawi said the rule would not be implemented if the villagers were able to discipline themselves and comply with the Order.

“If this rule is to be enforced by POKB, villagers need to get a letter or form which will be prepared and coordinated by the village community council, the village chief or Village Community Management Councils (MPKK).

“Each household head (KIR) is only allowed to obtain the Exit Form twice, within a week for the purpose of purchasing basic necessities or urgent matter,” he said.

According to Jamawi some have questioned why only 10 people a day are allowed to go to town, in which he described the effort as an attempt to break the Covid-19 virus chain.

“Imagine being out of control and people gathering in large number at shops in town or banks, where one of them is a Covid-19 positive which might infect others.

“So if there is a need for this measure, we will take implement it for the safety of people. Preventing is better than cure,” he added.

Jamawi also called for the cooperation of the villagers, especially the Kemabong area, to comply with the order for the safety and health of all while assisting the efforts of the Government and frontline personnel in reducing the spread of the virus here.

“We should be grateful that Tenom and Kemabong are free from the virus, while there have been reported cases in Keningau and Sipitang. We need to work together to curb the virus from spreading here,” he said.
