New cluster at 3 Sabah hospitals
PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Health (MOH) has detected a new cluster involving health personnel at three hospitals in Sabah, said Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic).

He said the three hospitals were the Queen Elizabeth 2 Hospital, Women and Children’s Hospital, Likas and Keningau Hospital.

He said as of Saturday (April 18), 31 cases had been identified to be Covid-19 positive under the cluster, including two new cases reported Saturday.

“All the patients are still undergoing treatment. This cluster comprises 23 health personnel and eight family members or members of the public.

“This cluster was detected when the results of a Covid-19 test on a Queen Elizabeth 2 Hospital staff came out positive on April 2,” he said at the daily press conference on Covid-19, here, Saturday.

Dr Noor Hashim explained that the personnel was not well and showed symptoms of cough and flu on the particular day (April 2).

“Investigations and screenings for the personnel’s contacts were carried out and some of his co-workers and family members were found to be Covid-19 positive. “All 31 cases are still warded and in stable condition. None of them were infected while handling Covid-19 patients,” he said.

The detection of the new cluster brings the total number of Covid-19 clusters and sub-clusters currently in the country at over 30.

As of Saturday, the four biggest clusters detected were the BBIM cluster (183 cases); church conference cluster (132); executive cluster (121); and Sungai Lui Madrasah cluster (128).

Lahad Datu became the third district in the State to be classified as Covid-19 red zone when the number of cases increased to 42 on Saturday.

  Tawau was declared as Sabah’s first red zone on March 30, while the State Capital reached the red zone threshold on Thursday (April 16).

 Coloured zones were denoted by the Health Ministry (MoH) based on the number of cases in an area.

 Green refers to areas with no positive Covid-19 cases, while yellow have up to 20 cases. Orange is for areas with 21 to 40 cases while the red zone refers to areas with more than 40 cases.

 On Saturday, Tuaran and Sandakan were also classified as orange zones as the cases rose to 21 in each district.

 The green zones in the State are Kudat, Pitas, Kota Marudu, Beluran, Telupid, Tongod, Nabawan, Tenom and Kuala Penyu.

 Ten new positive Covid-19 cases were recorded, Saturday, bringing the total to 303.

 Topping the list was Tawau with 81, followed by Kota Kinabalu (44), Lahad Datu (42), Tuaran (21), Sandakan (21), Kinabatangan (19), Keningau (16), Penampang (12), Beaufort (11), Putatan (8), Kunak (8), Kota Belud (5), Papar (4), Sipitang (4), Tambunan (3), Ranau (2), and Semporna (2).

 The number of recovered Covid-19 cases in Sabah is 168, to date, while the death toll is four.
