Five MCO violators charged in Ranau

RANAU: Ranau District Police Chief DSP Sammy Newton (pic), said five local men were charged for violating the Motion Control Order (MCO) in Ranau district on Tuesday.

Police arrested five local men between the ages of 22 -37 for failing to comply with the MCO level 2 phase from April 1-4.

The first case, at about 3.15pm, police arrested four local men between the ages of 23 -32 in a Kg Lohan car wash premises for operating as usual with two customers on that day.

In the second case, a man in his 20s was detained in the parking lot of the Sabindo Supermarket Kg Lasing.

The men were taken to the Ranau Police Station and compounded RM1,000 each for violation under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).

Sammy explained that in the Level 3 MCO, those who are still stubborn and violate the MCO will be arrested, remanded and directly charged in court.

Meanwhile in Sipitang, police detained two males for violating the Movement Control Oder (MCO) and for possessing Syabu on Monday. District Police Chief Champin Piuh who confirmed the incident on Wednesday said that both detainees have been remanded and is being investigated under Section11 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Areas) 2020 and Section 269 of the Penal Code.

All detainees and confiscated items were brought to the Sipitang Police Station for further investigation. In Lahad Datu, police detained two men here on the last day of Movement Control Order (MCO) Phase Two for violating the order.

Nasri said both individuals were later brought to Lahad Datu police headquarters for their compounds to be processed. He said both cases were classified under Rule 3(1) of Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease Regulations 2020 and punishable under Rules 11 of the same Regulations.
