Defying MCO: Two joggers among 5 held

SANDAKAN: Two women were compounded for jogging during the Movement Control Order (MCO) at Tyng Park, Mile 5, here, Sunday.District Police Chief ACP Mohd Azhar Hamin said a team patrolling the area saw the duo engaged in the activity at about 6am.

“They were brought to Sandakan police station and each was issued a compound of RM1,000 under Rule 3(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 2020.
“If they fail to pay the compound within 14 days, they will face court action,” he said.
Mohd Azhar also denied that a crowd who was seen queuing in front of the Sandakan police station on Monday had come to pay their MCO compounds.
He was commenting on videos and photos that went viral on social media claiming the crowd comprised those coming to pay their MCO compounds.

He explained that the crowd was actually there to lodge reports and to attend to other matters.
“To prevent them from gathering and to reduce the spread of Covid-19, social distancing was practised and this led to a long queue to the road.

“At the same time, disinfectant work was also carried out at the station,” he said.
Meanwhile, in SIPITANG, three people, including a woman, were arrested in two separate locations for not only violating the MCO but also syabu taking, on Sunday.
District Police Chief DSP Champin Piuh said the first arrest was made at 2.50pm at Kg Mendulong.
He said security personnel on MCO duty stopped a Perodua Axia driven by a 30-year-old man who tried to accelerate in his attempt to escape.
“Police later located and arrested the man in Sipitang town at 6pm the same day,” he said.
In the second incident, the police arrested a man, 41, and a woman, 34, at a roadblock in Kampung Marintaman at 9.25pm.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

“Both in the Toyota Corona Wagon were looking suspicious and gave unreasonable excuses when asked why they were still on the road.
“Further investigations and examination found the three suspects to be drug-positive,” he said.
