Lightovation Is Canceled
Dallas Market Center announced that the June edition of Lightovation has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Organizers of the semiannual global trade show, which was scheduled for June 24 to 27, are monitoring the feasibility of holding the lighting market in advance of the next edition in January 2021. As of today, the June editions of other trade events at Dallas Market Center, including the Total Home & Gift Market, are scheduled as planned, as exhibitors are less dependent on air travel for participation.
AIA Houston Reschedules Gala
AIA Houston announced it has rescheduled its annual Celebrate Architecture Gala to Saturday, July 18. The gala will be held at the Lone Star Flight Museum, and tickets and more information can be found here. The annual event supports Architecture Center Houston and will feature an auction.
Houston Architect Launches Tyvek Drive
Houston-based architect Nadia Palacios Lauterbach has launched a grassroots effort to create protective gowns for medical personnel from Tyvek material. “Tyvek or similar is used in construction as a moisture barrier. I have to specify this on every project, and that was my ‘a-ha’ moment—I knew where to find it and who to ask for help,” Lauterbach tells AD PRO. “I put a message on all my social media outlets and I called directly on fellow architects, designers, and building contractors to help me source the material. I posted an open message to a few of my [fashion design] contacts. It turned out that they already had been asked to produce the garments but were lacking the materials, so it was a perfect match.” Construction industry colleagues have already donated more than 3,000 yards of Tyvek since Lauterbach’s first call to action.
The CEH Begins Making Masks
Dallas-based furniture store the CEH announced it is hand-sewing and donating hundreds of washable cotton masks for the medical community in Dallas and beyond. The company is donating all materials and labor and made a request for additional fabric and elastic donations to help in their effort.
Hobby Lobby Forced to Close by Dallas County Judge
Dallas locations of Hobby Lobby were remaining open in defiance of the shelter-in-place order given by officials. That ended on April 2 when they were forced to close by Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins, who said Hobby Lobby’s action was “a slap in the face to the businesses that are following this order” during a press conference on April 2, according to Culturemap Dallas.

Camden Property Trust Gives $5 Million to Tenants
On Monday, Houston landlord Camden Property Trust opened a $5 million giveaway to struggling tenants, who could apply for up to $2,000 per apartment to help with living expenses. According to the Houston Chronicle, by 10:16 AM that day, the money was already spoken for via 2,520 requests from tenants across the 56,107-unit portfolio of properties.
Amy Berry Home Hosts Sale
Dallas-based brand Amy Berry Home is hosting a 25% off everything sale, which will run as long as Dallas officials keep residents sheltered in place. Visitors to the site can shop furniture, lighting, throw pillows, children’s items, and more with no code needed.
