Three Members Of BTS Have Now Scored Top 10 Hits On The Sales Chart

This article is more than 4 years old.

Kim Tae-hyung, better known to his millions of fans as V from the band BTS, has a new solo single out, and it quickly became a big hit, at least on one Billboard chart this week. By nabbing his own smash under his solo moniker, V has joined a handful of his bandmates in managing a relatively rare feat among Korean artists.

V debuts his new single “Sweet Night” at No. 2 on this week’s Digital Song Sales chart, which ranks the bestselling tracks every frame in the U.S. In doing so, he has landed the second-highest-charting single on the tally by a Korean act.

Thanks to his new hit single, the singer, songwriter and producer has become the third member of BTS to find himself inside the top 10 on the Digital Song Sales chart. The band is by far the most successful name from South Korea in the history of the list, both as a unit and when it comes to the musicians going off on their own and pushing tracks toward the top of the tally.

Last year, J-Hope debuted his multilingual banger “Chicken Noodle Soup” at No. 9, becoming the first BTS member to appear inside the highest region on the Digital Song Sales chart without standing side-by-side with the other six performers. He was joined by Latin pop musician Becky G, and the two sang the cut in three languages: Korean, Spanish and English.

Just a short time later, rapper Suga, another member of BTS, joined J-Hope in this specific feat as he landed at No. 10 with the appropriately-titled “Suga’s Interlude.” The track was featured on Halsey’s album Manic, and it was released before the set dropped, becoming something of a promotional single. Interestingly, the song is credited to Halsey, Suga and BTS, so the win counts toward both the group’s career total and Suga’s solo endeavors.

RM, another member of BTS, has also reached the Digital Song Sales chart, though he didn’t make it to the top 10. As a featured guest on Younha’s “Winter Flower,” the performer only managed to lift as high as No. 30 for a single turn.

BTS itself has now appeared inside the top 10 on the Digital Song Sales chart with 15 tracks, including a trio of leaders. In time, it’s entirely possible that more members of the group may land big wins on the tally, and while it is a bit of a stretch to imagine, all seven vocalists could one day claim at least a single top 10 on the important list.
