Law firms waive fees for Make a Will Month

Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice has partnered with solicitors across the West Midlands to offer people a cheaper way to sort their will and raise funds for the charity.

From Monday 2 to Tuesday 31 March, a number of solicitors and will writers will be taking part in the hospice’s ‘Make a Will Month’, when they’ll be waiving their usual fees and asking for a charitable donation for the hospice instead.

The initiative will give people the opportunity to write or update this important document for a much cheaper price – for example, suggested donations are £100 for a single will which typically cost £185, and £125 for a joint will which costs £225 on average.

For wills requiring more specialist advice, the solicitors will agree a donation in advance.

All donations will go towards Birmingham St Mary’s.

Katy O’Sullivan, senior fundraising manager at the Hospice, said: “Taking part in Make a Will Month is a much cheaper way for you to get your affairs in order, whilst helping to raise much-needed funds for the Hospice. Your will is such an important document and yet, there are still so many people who haven’t got theirs sorted. Not only does having one give you peace of mind that your loved ones will be provided for in the future, but it also ensures that your last wishes will be respected.

“Thank you to all the solicitors and will writers who are generously giving up their time for free to support this campaign. We have a number of firms signed up to the initiative who will make sorting your will as simple as possible – you can arrange a home visit, complete it online, or even visit the solicitor at their office if that’s more convenient for you.”
