A two-run single by Kyle Schwarber in the second inning accounted for all of the damage against him in this one. It was his first double-digit strikeout performance since July 9, 2022. The 27-year-old southpaw will bring an inflated 5.91 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 38/16 K/BB ratio across 32 innings (seven starts) into a road tilt on Tuesday against the Pirates.

Cronenworth put San Diego ahead for good with a towering grand slam to right field off Reds standout reliever Fernando Cruz in the seventh inning. It was his fifth long ball of the season and lone hit in three at-bats. The 30-year-old on-base machine has helped hold things together this season as a mainstay in the heart of San Diego’s lineup.

Steer kicked off the scoring with a solo shot to left-center field -- his fourth round-tripper of the season -- off Padres starter Joe Musgrove in the opening frame. It was the first time he’s gone deep since April 6, snapping a bizarre 22-game homerless drought. The versatile 26-year-old on-base machine is batting .252/.364/.450 with 18 runs scored, four homers, 22 RBI and eight stolen bases through 31 contests.

Musgrove cobbled together one of his strongest performances of the season to date, It was a much-needed bounce-back effort after being shelled for seven runs on eight hits, including four homers, over 3 2/3 innings his last time out against the Phillies. His average fastball velocity was back above 93 mph in this one as he induced 14 swinging strikes and finished with a solid 32 percent CSW. He’ll bring an inflated 6.37 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 36/13 K/BB ratio across 41 innings (eight starts) into a road tilt on Tuesday against the Cubs at historic Wrigley Field. It’s going to take a while for his surface stats to improve after some ugly early-season disasters, but this outing was an encouraging step in the right direction.

Rodríguez has clearly snapped out of an early-season funk at the dish with seven multi-hit performances in his last 13 contests over the past two weeks since April 17. The 23-year-old fantasy superstar has just one round-tripper through 31 games, but he’s managed to raise his batting average back up to the .270 mark, and has also chipped in seven steals as well. It’s just a matter of time before he starts hitting moonshots again.

Sale authored arguably his strongest performance of his Braves debut so far, generating an eye-popping 21 swinging strikes, and finishing with an elite 39 percent CSW. A run-scoring single from Jorge Polanco with two outs in the fifth inning represented the lone tally against him in this one. The oft-injured 35-year-old veteran southpaw has looked rejuvenated since arriving in Atlanta, allowing three earned runs or fewer in five of six starts to open the year. He’ll carry a strong 3.44 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 42/7 K/BB ratio across 36 2/3 innings (six starts) into a home outing next Wednesday against his former team, the suddenly resurgent Red Sox.

Lugo fanned eight today, giving him 17 strikeouts in his last two outings. He totaled just 14 in his first five starts of the year, so this is a big improvement. That he opened up 3-0 with a 1.05 ERA looked like a fluke, given where his stuff was at, but these last two wins have seemed quite a bit more legitimate.

Buxton pulled up on a stolen base attempt during the game and had to be helped off the field. It looks likely that the oft-injured outfielder is heading to the injured list once again, but the Twins will wait and see what the imaging shows before addressing the situation publicly.

Adames has three homers and eight RBI the last two days. It looked like he might bat lower in the order than usual this year, and he did hit fifth against the Mets on Opening Day. However, he’s hit fourth or higher every game since, and he’s now up to 21 RBI in 30 games for the season.

Anderson is now out of the Marlins’ lineup in consecutive games after he left Monday’s game with a thumb injury. The team said he’s out today as a precautionary measure, so hopefully the 30-year-old is back in the lineup in the coming days.
