After starting the first two matches of the season on the bench, the forward had a chance to start at lock when Joe Tapine was struck with injury.
Playing the next nine matches in the starting side, Sutton had a chance to display his qualities as he regularly made over 100 running metres per game, as well as showcasing his passing game.
Sutton also scored his first try for the club in Round 6 against the Brisbane Broncos as he was first to pounce upon a deflected Jack Wighton grubber kick.
During the Origin period, Sutton continued to play big minutes as he started at prop but a calf injury in the lead up to Round 17 saw the Englishman sidelined until Round 21.
Upon his return, Sutton took his place on interchange bench but another Joe Tapine injury saw the 24 year old line up at lock.
In the lead up to finals, Sutton was rewarded for an impressive first season with a new three year deal.
Whitehead and Sutton stoked to remain as Raiders
With Emre Guler battling it out with Sutton for the final spot in the 17, Stuart ultimately picked Guler for the finals series. However, Sutton’s season wasn’t over as he was picked to represent England in the World Cup Nines.
