James Wan’s Mortal Kombat reboot wraps filming

Warner Bro.s just moved the release of producer James Wan and director Simon McQuoid's live-action MORTAL KOMBAT up seven weeks to Martin Luther King Day weekend 2021. And today we have word the movie has wrapped filming.

The update comes to us from actor Lewis Tan over on Instagram who writes:

Picture wrap on Mortal Kombat! This will take a while to process before I can put the feelings into words accurately, for now, I’m depleted, physically and emotionally, I’m delighted and exhilarated, that is how it should feel at the end, give everything for the art. Risk it all. We made something truly special here. I’m proud. The filmmakers and crew were top of their class and beyond professional. Australia delivered unique and breathtaking landscapes. The cast has created a family and bond that will last forever. Thank you @simonmcquoid for your trust and guidance, you are the embodiment of a leader. Lastly, my inspiration. My niece was born with rare lung disease when she was 3, doctors said she wouldn’t make it, she fought through unthinkable circumstances and impossible odds just to survive. A true warrior. She's 15 now. This year when I turned down 3 films and 2 TV shows to spend months reading for a huge film that eventually wasn’t for me, she was there texting me support daily, now she sits in my chair watching me perform as I lead my first studio picture. Never. Ever. Give. Up.

The cast includes Jessica McNamee (THE MEG) as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, and DEADPOOL 2 and WU ASSASSINS actor Lewis Tan set to play an undisclosed lead character. They join THE RAID star Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Chinese-Canadian actor Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Mehcad Brooks as Jackson ‘Jax’ Briggs, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Sisi Stringer as Mileena, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion.

This new take on the game supposedly centers on

a male protagonist who becomes drawn into the interdimensional tournament, and begins to realize his true potential as a result.

MORTAL KOMBAT will be the feature directorial debut for award-winning commercial director Simon McQuoid, who will be working from a screenplay written by Greg Russo based on the video game franchise. Wan is producing the film with Todd Garner. Larry Kasanoff, E. Bennett Walsh, Michael Clear, and Sean Robins serve as executive producers. The flick will be unleashed on January 15, 2021. How excited are YOU? Let us know below!
