At its Inno Event in Shenzhen, Oppo has announced that it will be launching a pair of augmented reality smart glasses.

The wearable looks similar to other AR headsets that we have seen from companies like Magic Leap, and uses a fisheye camera, diffractive waveguide technology, and 3D reconstruction technology to create images that can be interacted within a pseudo-virtual space.

Oppo also says that the device uses 3D surround sound in order to create an immersive experience. The Chinese vendor is already working on augmented reality content, games, and other services, but at the launch event software was limited.

The only service demonstrated was a model of the solar system, with the ability to turn planets and zoom in, using a pinch motion, to a replica of a tower in Shenzhen. Rather than a consumer device, it seems that Oppo is pitching this device to commercial users as an upcoming rival to Microsoft's Hololens.

Oppo also announced two other prospective products: an "intelligent 5G management" router that supports Bluetooth, ZigBee, and Z-Wave wireless technologies to act as a smart-home hub for internet-of-things devices. In addition, it'll run using Qualcomm's Snapdragon X55 5G modem chipset. Oppo says the router can currently support hundreds of devices, but that number will increase to thousands in the future.

The second product is a smartwatch, which Oppo plans on launching in next year's first quarter. Unfortunately, the company is withholding details about the upcoming device. On stage, Oppo vice president Levin Liu said that "smartwatches will become an extension of the smartphone, with lots of sensors and AI, deep learning," although it's currently unclear whether those features will be included on this smartwatch.
