Breaking: New Scream movie now in development!

Tonight we've just learned from our buddies over at Bloody Disgusting that Wes Craven's SCREAM is getting a new entry via Gary Barber’s Spyglass Media Group. No word on if this will continue the story from the first four movies or if it will be a remake reboot. Kevin Williamson is not writing the screenplay. Stick with us and we'll pass along word as we hear it.

Wes Craven re-invented and revitalised the slasher-horror genre with this modern horror classic, which manages to be funny, clever and scary, as a fright-masked knife maniac stalks high-school students in middle-class suburbia. Craven is happy to provide both tension and self-parody as the body count mounts – but the victims aren't always the ones you'd expect.

Inspired by the real-life serial killer dubbed the Gainesville Ripper (it happened in my hometown when I was in kindergarten), SCREAM was influenced by screenwriter Kevin Williamson's passion for fright flicks such as John Carpenter's HALLOWEEN. Originally titled SCARY MOVIE, Dimension Films bought the script and the Weinstein Brothers changed the title after filming was complete. 

The original film was directed by Wes Craven from a screenplay written by Kevin Williamson. Cathy Konrad and Cary Woods produced the hit horror movie which featured music by Marco Beltrami, cinematography by Mark Irwin, and editing by Patrick Lussier. Arquette, Campbell, and Cox's co-stars the first time around included  Matthew Lillard, Rose McGowan, Skeet Ulrich, and Drew Barrymore.
