Local man accused of fleeing after traffic stop

A local man was arrested after he was accused of fleeing from Columbus Police officers during a traffic stop on Saturday afternoon.

Officers attempted to stop a vehicle for an expired license plate near Seventh and Chestnut streets just after 2 p.m. Saturday, said Lt. Matt Harris Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The driver, identified as Marlon Cowan Jr., 43, Columbus, refused to stop and quickly turned into a nearby north-south alley, Harris said. Cowan continued driving int he alley and later exited near the 500 block of Eighth Street and began running on foot, Harris said.

Cowan ran into a nearby residence where he was located a short time later and taken into custody, Harris said.

Cowan was arrested on preliminary charges of felony resisting law enforcement, misdemeanor resisting law enforcement and driving while suspended with a prior conviction, jail officials said.
