An undefeated season for Wisconsin came to a screeching halt Saturday.

Taking on Illinois on the road, the Badgers entered the game as 30-point favorites to keep rolling. Unfortunately, a win was not meant to be.

Though Wisconsin dominated time of possession and had the Illini bottled up for much of the afternoon, some key defensive miscues and offensive turnovers made the difference. In fact, the Badgers turned the ball over twice in the last eight minutes, providing Illinois the opportunity it needed to score 10 unanswered points and pull off the upset.

After the game, head coach Paul Chryst addressed what went wrong in the fourth. At the end of the day, the game hung on the late turnovers by Jonathan Taylor and Jack Coan. Chryst admitted there are a number of things to work on, but it was those turnovers that opened the door for the Illini.

“Your last two drives end in turnovers, you give them a chance,” explained Chryst. “It’s always harder to win on the road, and you make it that much harder. There’s a lot of areas for each individual we’ve got to get better, learn from, and then move forward.”

Adam Rittenberg with ESPN shared a video of Chryst’s comments:

There is not much time for Wisconsin to regroup. The Badgers turnaround and face Ohio State next weekend.
