Digicel Foundation celebrates 11 years

Digicel Foundation celebrated its 11th Year Anniversary by launching the Live Love Learn Program for the staff of Digicel.

The Program aims to encourage staff to Live out the values of the company, Love the work of the Foundation and the change they are collectively achieving and Learn through volunteering and gaining new skills.

Under the theme ‘Leadership for Change’, 15 organisations were invited to display their work for the 722 staff of Digicel PNG at the headquarters to see how they could become more engaged citizens.

Yanamlyn Yana of Tribal Foundation said her team was grateful to be invited to talk about the work they do at this Open Day event.

“We had many staff wanting to know more about what we do at Tribal and how they can be part of this tribe! As a coalition partner and member to the Pikinini Defenders Campaign, we advocated on the rising cases of abuse and violence faced by our children today and had more than 40 Digicel staff agreeing with this campaign,” Yana said.

Digicel Foundation CEO, Serena Sasingian, said the private sector plays a huge role in the development of the country.

“Apart from providing jobs to Papua New Guineans and paying taxes, companies like Digicel go the extra mile through its philanthropy. Since 2008 Digicel PNG Ltd has given just under K100 million to finance 464 projects in every district of Papua New Guinea,” Sasingian said.

“This has translated to 18,000 students everyday sitting in one of the 608 classrooms we have built around the country and the thousands of people that have been able to access health care because of the 40 ambulances and aid posts that we have donated to health centres in some of the remotest parts of the country.

“All this would not be possible without the hard working staff of Digicel PNG therefore we have made available funds for them to apply to use to support small-scale community projects in their villages," the Digicel Foundation CEO added.

It was a fun filled day and all left inspired about the actions they could take to create a world where no one gets left behind.
