Jordan Peele will write & direct 2 new movies for Universal

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It looks like GET OUT and US writer-director Jordan Peele has no plans to stop making killer horror movies anytime soon. In fact, today we've learned that Universal has signed a five-year exclusive deal with Peele. And with this new deal comes word that Universal will develop Peele’s next two films – which he will write, direct, and produce.

Universal Filmed Entertainment Group chairman Donna Langley says:

Jordan has established himself as a premier voice and original storyteller with global appeal. He is leading a new generation of filmmakers that have found a way to tap into the cultural zeitgeist with groundbreaking content that resonates with audiences of all backgrounds. We also share an important goal with Monkeypaw when it comes to increasing representation on-screen in the characters that are portrayed, the stories that are told, and the people who tell them.

Peele adds:

It would not have been possible to make Get Out and Us without the endless trust and support we received from Donna Langley and the team at Universal. Their willingness to take risks and their commitment to original content makes them the perfect collaborative partner for Monkeypaw. I couldn’t be more excited for what lies ahead.

Now I don't know about you but I'm happy as hell to hear that Peele's next two films have the backing and support of a major studio like Universal. Let's just hope that the man keeps to making his original movies and doesn't get sucked into, let's say, the Dark Universe.

Peel's next project is his "spiritual sequel" to Bernard Rose's 1992 adaptation of Clive Barker's CANDYMAN starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (AQUAMAN) and Teyonah Parris (IF BEALE STREET COULD TALK). Peele is producing the new flick while LITTLE WOODS writer-director Nia DaCosta will be taking the helm. Filming recently wrapped on the flick which Universal Pictures will unleash into a theater near you on June 12, 2020.

How excited are YOU about this “spiritual sequel?" Let us know below!
