Samir Handanovic will compete in his 16th Derby della Madonnina this weekend and ahead of the match, Corriere dello Sport have spoken on the importance of the Slovenian shot-stopper.

“In the first three league matches of the season, he has conceded just one goal. Whilst he has not been put at risk much at all, he has still been fundamental on a few occasions, particularly when he was forced to save Kevin Lasagna’s shot during the Udinese match,” the report begins.

“With so many years of service, Handanovic has also become a critical conscience inside and outside the locker room. It is no coincidence that a contract extension until 2022 is in progress with the idea to grant him a raise to bring his salary to over €3 million.

“In that last season he will be able to give help to his designated heir, namely Ionut Radu. The Romanian, with another couple of years at Genoa will then be ready for Inter.”
